Some say love has no age limit—and Lauren Cohen from New Jersey is living proof of that. Not only did she find love later in life, but she also became a record-breaking mom in the process!

In 2006, just shy of her 60th birthday, Lauren gave birth to twins—Gregory and Giselle—making her the oldest woman in the U.S. to do so at the time. But her journey to motherhood wasn’t easy.

Love at First Dance

Lauren met her husband, Frank Garcia, in a dance class back in 2002. She was already a mother of two and recently divorced, never expecting to find love again—let alone with someone 20 years younger.

“I never imagined he’d be interested in someone so much older,” she shared. But sparks flew, and they tied the knot just months later.

IVF, Setbacks, and Determination

Starting a family wasn’t simple. Most doctors turned the couple away due to Lauren’s age. But they didn’t give up.

After several failed IVF attempts and countless doctor visits, they finally found a specialist willing to help. The couple welcomed their first child together, Raquel, in December 2004. Then, to their surprise, Lauren became pregnant again—this time with twins!

Becoming a Mom Again at 60

On May 22, 2006, Lauren gave birth to twins Gregory and Giselle. She became the oldest mom of twins in the U.S., matching a British record from 1993. And despite some initial media frenzy, Lauren didn’t think of herself as a record holder.

“I don’t feel like one. Aside from some arthritis, I’m in great shape,” she told PEOPLE.

Facing the Challenges of Older Motherhood

Being an older mom comes with its challenges. Lauren admits that strangers often mistake her for the twins’ grandmother. Even her eldest daughter, Renee, has struggled to adjust, once expressing discomfort with the age gap.

Still, Lauren and Frank cherish their unique family. She dedicates herself to staying healthy for her kids’ future—practicing yoga, Pilates, and taking nearly 100 supplements weekly.

“My goal is to see them graduate college,” she said. “I have to make it another 17 years—until I’m 81!”

A Life Filled With Love and Purpose

Despite the skeptics, Lauren has embraced her role as a later-in-life mom with pride. Her story reminds us that it’s never too late to build the life you want, and love—just like family—doesn’t follow a set timeline.
